Text selection for a digital textbook for first-year international students of Sociology at Russian universities

The Introduction describes the linguo-methodological aspects of creating a ‘library of texts’ for a digital textbook in Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL). These aspects include the selection of texts with regard to both recommendations of experienced social studies teachers (this establishes interdisciplinary links) and the actual communicative needs of international students in their study, the selection of educational topics, and the determination of time allocated for the study of these topics in RFL classes.
Materials and Methods section, the authors analyze texts of relevant functional-semantic types and use Textometer software to adapt the texts to the level of professional language skills of first-year international students studying at sociology faculties of Russian universities (fields of study Sociology and Public Policy and Social Sciences).
The Results section describes a textbook relevant to this category of students.
Conclusions section, the authors maintain that the created text selection ensures that international students assimilate a certain amount of basic content relevant to their area of specialization in sociology.
