Foreign language for specific purposes: Correlation of proficiency indicators in cadets of a military school

The study employed a multifactorial correlation analysis to process the results of experimental foreign language teaching to military school cadets. We used a lexical-grammatical test, a work- with-information task and a communicative-professional task to measure the cadets’ level of foreign language communicative competence in the military sphere. The multifactorial correlation analysis allowed us to conclude that there is a direct correlation among the main indicators of such competence, which is a result of the unity of the processes of speech perception and speech production. The closest correlation was found between the level of knowledge of professional vocabulary and the ability to work with foreign language texts — i. e., to extract, process and present the requested information. This is connected to the priority of developing the reading skill.
